Trees in Agriculture: agroforestry at the heart of current issues

The French Agroforestry Association (AFAF) with a range of other partners, including the French Botanical Society, organised a successful two day agroforestry conference in Paris on Friday 20 March and Saturday 21 March 2015. The meeting called “Trees in Agriculture: agroforestry at the heart of current issues” took place in the imposing environment of the Grand Amphitheatre of Paris-Descartes University. Over 250 people attended the two day meeting including a large number of students. The meeting included presentations from Christian Dupraz and Marie Gosme (INRA) on “How to explain the astonishing productivity of cereal agroforestry systems” and by Patrick Worms (ICRAF) on “Trees versus tractors: why agroforestry is the best friend of the farmer”. The Co-ordinator of the AGFORWARD project, Paul Burgess, also gave a presentation on how AGFORWARD was “Creating a European resource for agroforestry”.

In addition to 15 platform presentations, the organisers provided a “Buffet Agroforestier” comprising a range of meats, breads, fruits, vegetables and beverages produced from French agroforestry farms. Although the talks were good, the agroforestry food received an even greater round of applause!
