participative “Shareshop” in Portugal

24 July 2014.  As part of the AGFORWARD project, the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (University of Lisbon) held an initial participative “Shareshop” in Portugal with a group of farmers, foresters, landowners, producers associations and public institutions interested to discuss and share ideas on modern agroforestry. The objective of the “Shareshop” was to share views and experiences of agroforestry from around Europe and within Portugal, and to identify innovations, key challenges to the sector, and researchable issues, and discuss the implementation problems occurred during the 2007-2013 Rural Development Plan.

The initial presentation (in Portuguese) is available on:

As part of the AGFORWARD project, about 40 such groups focused on particular aspects of agroforestry will be established across Europe.    These will be grouped into four themes: i) existing agroforestry systems of high natural and cultural value, ii) the integration of grazing or intercropping in orchard, olive, or high value timber systems, iii) the integration of trees into arable systems, and iv) integration of trees into livestock systems.
